I flashed a 2009 Mac Pro to 5.1 and this little baby is amazing. I added a 500GB NVME for macos and then a 2TB NVME for my home folder and before that I used 2 SSDs in a raid on another PCI card still installed. this nvme gets 2500mb! (even without raid) Also note that I was able to upgrade to Macos Mojave, which automatically installs the firmware to read nvme. So I assumed I was stuck in macos Sierra (would allow raid drives for macos) and didn't even need raid to get those speeds (macos Mojave no longer allows raid for OSes). Note. I also had to ditch my NVIDIA graphics card and install an Ati-Radeon to have Metal support. Bottom line, I can't believe I have a computer that's 11 years old and outperforms most computers. I always think I'll have to bite the bullet and drop 6k on a new MacPro, but I think I'm good for a couple more years.
