I have seen and repaired many torn towel bars. Can't say that they were inappropriately installed. Many of them were torn with drywall anchors on the screws. It seems that even though drywall can hold a lot of weight with appropriate anchors, the constant motion and random force may ultimately get these anchors loose and towel or toilet paper racks are torn from position.The best benefit of this flexible towel bar is that you can install it with both ends on studs, avoiding the fixed length bar drywall tear problem.
