Six Paws Up for Cats

Our six cats smelled this the moment I opened the box and attacked them like sharks trying to rip open the wrapper before I could open it. I won, but with difficulty. I immediately gave them small bowls and they sucked it up and asked for more. They always like tiki cat food, wet or dry, but I think the fishy smell of it took them to the extreme. As we were feeding them for free I mixed them with their regular brand as is usual when introducing a new food and they took to it very well. They also ate more bites than usual, although that's not always a good thing in our bloated cat house. The funny thing is that a bunch of guys started sitting around the plate and poking Tiki with their claws like I'm making orange marmalade in a bowl of candy. It was pretty funny. The first ingredient was trout, followed by menhaden fishmeal. The third ingredient is peas, then chicken flour, chickpeas and chicken fat. I'd rather have peas further down the list - they're just a popular starchy bulking agent these days and their protein isn't bioavailable for our little carnivores. I've also read that too many peas/beans can interfere with the production of the cat's vital enzyme taurine, so I'd be happier with regular rice as a filler as few cats have a problem with that. An elderly cat with very poor digestion did not respond badly to this food so I am not reducing the price of the food. In fact, the granules have everything that should be, and as far as I can tell there is nothing superfluous.
