VX-7R does not fit well

The base connector when screwing onto the antenna connector for the VX-7R interferes with the rubber cover of the microphone and speaker/headphone jacks, so the only way to make a solid connection is on the threaded antenna connector to remove the rubber plugs from the microphone/headphone jack. There is a gap in the antenna connector. Clearly not waterproof, and with the 31-inch antenna it feels a bit heavier, with the feeling that moving your wrist while holding the VX-7R, for example, could tear, break or otherwise damage the antenna connector.
