Plustek OpticFilm 8200i . . After reading several articles about this scanner, I ordered it. The results are amazing, especially the ability to virtually eliminate scratches and dust marks from both negatives and slides. My flatbed scanner couldn't do that, and it took tedious hours in Lightroom to clean up the images. No matter how carefully you store your photos, dust and scratches will remain on them. The scanner performs a final scan to detect and fix these errors. You can blow them out with compressed air before scanning, but some dust will remain and blowing off will not leave a scratch. The supplied SilverFast 8 software installed easily on my iMac and was easy to learn. In 1990 I made an extended visit to what was then the USSR and took with me 30 rolls of Fujicolor and Kodak color negative film. It was properly edited upon my return and 3x5 prints were made. At the time I was happy with them. It's hard to describe my surprise when I scanned these negatives and saw the results. I have never seen how colorful and sharp these images were. I've also scanned slides I made in the 1960's and the results are excellent. Each slide or negative needs to be scanned twice – once for a pre-scan so you can straighten the image and make color adjustments, and then for a final scan. Therefore, this process can take several minutes for each image. This is inevitable if you end up wanting a high quality digital image. I am very satisfied with this product and fully support it. This is truly an excellent product that deserves your attention.
