This camera is the closest thing to a DSLR without having to buy a DSLR. I used to have an HX100 and bought an inexpensive DSLR to replace it. I quickly realized how spoiled I was with my Sony Cybershot HX100. I sold the DSLR and upgraded to this newer version of what I had. One of my favorite features is taking pictures WHILE filming videos. This is an amazing, irreplaceable feature. In addition, it's a great solution to problems with poor lighting, such as photographing my daughter at the gym for gymnastics. If you take pictures while recording a video, they'll be much brighter and you'll get great action shots. Many times I've recorded videos and just taken shots one after the other so I can later check which ones came out perfect for the least blurry action shots. But lighting is always better for shooting in low light during video. The advantage over my HX100 is the 50x zoom - wow! That alone can't be beat for the price! People have mentioned here that getting a lens that even remotely touches that zoom would be an astronomical price for a DSLR. I bought a Samsung NX2000 and the zoom was terrible. I've learned how to get the best zoom, I'd have to buy another lens besides the one that came with it, which costs an extra $200. This amazing camera is the perfect set of perfect photo opportunities for our family! I also like the added two graphic effects. The one I remember, use and love is "Illustration". We have a mix of boxers and I've substituted some of those in the illustration and it looks just like a cartoon dog. LOVE IT!
