My son just turned 6 months when I bought this. This was our first Haba toy and after looking at a few of these in stores I decided that the size of this toy best suited our current needs. Many of the other Haba toys felt too big and didn't have enough "bumps" to be chewable for a child my son's size/age. At first this toy didn't seem like a big deal. He would hold it and try to put it in his mouth, but usually he would tire quickly and want to move on to something more stimulating. When he's 7 months old, he really starts to show interest. His gums are swollen and he's now teething, so this toy has gained new respect in our home. It's small enough that he can hold it, but at the same time has enough ribs that his clumsy hands can't just drop it. He usually holds two rays of sun in his mouth at the same time to maximize the gum surface area he can reach. There is a small bell in the center of the sun - it doesn't ring as well as I would like (my son loves lots of bells with his toys) but it's still a soft, pleasant sound.
