It has been pictured as a lamp to hang from a book or even a bedside table I believe. The thing is huge, that wasn't what I wanted to buy, thought I'd buy something more portable. This thing would be great for a desk lamp clip I agree. Can't comment on how well it glows as I just opened it up and it needs to be charged before use. Thought I'd add this info as it's not in the instructions lol. Save yourself some reading lol. *edited after use: best book light I've ever had. It clips onto my bedside table and even works well as a night light in the middle of the night. 5 brightness levels are ideal, even the brightest does not disturb the sleep of the other half. The neckline is also a nice touch. It lasts a long time after charging, the battery part is great too and only lasts a few hours, after that you have plenty. Love it, would recommend to any avid reader.
