We received this for use in a holiday cottage. It zips up, has a cottony feel and looks well tailored. After all, if renters do something crazy with our bed, replacing that mattress pad is cheaper than replacing a mattress. I probably wouldn't use a saver on my own bed. They seem to keep you warm. But it's an unobtrusive protector, and I'm not sure renters will even know it's there without looking closely. Externally, this protector is made of cotton and looks like cotton fabric. Somehow, without being entirely thick, what looks like a cotton cloth on the outside is plastic on the inside. But you'll have to unzip this protection and look inside to find out. I don't think the tread thickness is greater than that of a normal plate. After all, the test for something like this is years of use, and that's what this review lacks. If I find it inadequate in any way I will update this review. But for now it seems to be a good protector with some significant advantages over other waterproof protectors we have used.
