I'm hesitant to buy based on some reviews but I've opened and tested mine and so far so good. The packaging was basic, but the headlights were intact and not the slightest bit tangled as some claimed. The strings were separated and tied individually. My remote worked and had a plastic insert to protect the battery from use before I took it off to check. Some of the "modes" are very similar, but all work as intended and don't fail one or the other as others have reported. The battery is basic and may seem cheap, but this item cost less than $20. So remember you get what you pay for but I am very happy with my purchase and will be buying more. ***Update*** I bought 4 sets, they are great, no complaints so far, can't beat this price and product
