I originally used another set of "fairy lights" but ended up sending it back because it's just one long wire. It was easy with a little thought on my part. But I was impatient. and suffered from it. I also bought them to serve as a night light because I can't sleep in complete darkness and they have worked really well for me. I use the darkest setting with the setting "permanent". So anyhow, here's my experience of pitching it: + I grossly underestimated how long 9.8ft would be. But in the end I twisted the ends and made small thick icicles and I am very happy with the results.+ They come with small hooks to attach them to the curtain rod but I found them very small and useless. So I just taped them to the window frame and they are very easy to hold on with some plain clear tape. I also like it because I have gauzy white curtains over the lamps+. Untwisting individual strands is a bit annoying when they get tangled, but they're actually pretty easy to unravel/unravel+. The remote control works very well. I'm not sure yet about the timer function, but the light is very nice in the dark. The only complaint I have is that along with the permanent and 2 fading options, the light also works. convulsive. Apart from that, I highly recommend them. They are very beautiful and give off the perfect amount of light.
