I got this for my Marineland Eclipse 6 acrylic tank. It's the perfect size to upgrade an old Marineland fluorescent hood. I measured the inside and found that the new bracket couldn't be longer than 14 1/2 inches when I removed the old bracket. To convert an old mount, I unscrewed the plastic mount from the outside and cut all the wires from the ballast. (including cables). The ballast is sealed in plastic so it had to stay. Then I took out the parts that held the lightbulb. This left two rectangular holes about 12 inches apart. I took two suction cups and stuck the light wand holders through the holes. Finally I screwed the plastic bracket back into the hood, attached the light wand to the brackets, fed the wire through where the old one was and put the hood on. Wow! bright light, allows plants to grow and stays firmly anchored in the hood. You may be wondering why I chose submersibles as I haven't had any moisture issues with the new lighting. I will be buying again as I have three of these 6 gallon Eclipse tanks.
