Review on ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Hanna Kay's Clyne Collection Quilted Stretch-to-Fit Mattress Pad: Ultimate Comfort for Queen Beds by Hunter Schneider

Revainrating 4 out of 5

What is that. And it's not.

One of the smartest investments you can make after buying an expensive new mattress is getting a cover for it. Even the most expensive covers are a relatively inexpensive way to protect your mattress. The covers can be replaced much cheaper than replacing the entire mattress. However, buying a case can be a hassle. There are generally three categories of covers and there seems to be a lot of confusion among consumers as to which to choose. In general, you will find that mattress covers fall into one of the following broad groups: 1. Solid color fabric (usually a cotton or poly-cotton blend) whose sole purpose is to cover the top and sides of the mattress to protect it to keep clean. This one by Hanna Kay falls into that group.2. A mattress pad designed to place a pillow between the sleeper and the mattress. They can range from thin batting of fabric to a much thicker layer of foam. Hanna Kay adds very little "filling," at least not enough to make a significant difference.3. mattress protector. It is similar to a mattress pad except that it has a layer of material designed to stop or absorb the flow of moisture to keep the mattress from getting dirty. Many times customers have reported that mattress pads can be less soft than mattress pads, although there are many differences between brands. Like a simple mattress topper, Hanna Kay does what it's supposed to. The size (see photo) is exactly a standard mattress size... this example is for a queen size product. The top is covered with a very thin layer of cotton/polyethylene, not enough to significantly change the "feel" of the mattress or make it more comfortable, but enough to ensure it lays flat. It's quilted in a diamond pattern to keep it flat and prevent the filling from bunching up. The sides of this cover are very different from anything I've seen in a mattress topper. The material is very thin (like a nylon stocking) and almost completely transparent. For most people, this shouldn't be a problem since the bottom sheet covers the sides, but other people might not like the look. Unlike a similar cover I recently bought from a retail store, the sides have no elastic and the elastic is just a small strip along the bottom edge of the side panels (the part that tucks under the mattress). Another brand uses a material that is fully elastic all around so it hugs the edge of the mattress snugly. I don't see any real advantages or disadvantages in either style. Time will tell if Hanna Kay's slim elastic strap can hold up to repeated washings, so it could be many months or even a year before I know how durable this coating is and will update this review if necessary. Overall I am satisfied with this mattress topper. This is the most basic case, nothing fancy, no real padding, but it deserves a positive review because it fits perfectly and is well made. And the price is reasonable.

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Too stupid
