Inexpensive alternative to branded microphones

My boyfriend is a professional host and DJ and in my previous career I have photographed weddings. There are two brands that my suppliers consistently recommend: Sennheiser or Shure. However, not everyone can afford the more expensive mics and I recently asked a friend what product he would recommend for those starting out MCing at weddings. He pointed me to this Thonor set. First, UHF microphones provide a longer range and more available frequencies for field use while minimizing the possibility of interference from other signals. Therefore he does not recommend VHF. So how is this set of mics doing? I asked him before buying a kit for myself. BENEFITS - Inexpensive alternative to Sennheiser/Shure brands - UHF operation over greater distance and number of frequencies - Clear sound with no interference - Decent half-day battery life. Use of AA batteries are interchangeable, which is very important at important events: Always have rechargeable spare batteries ready for replacement - Windshields included - Easy to install - Durable material and professional look - LCD screen to show you lots of information (frequency, channel , battery level) - 2 year warranty - Expandable to 15 mics MINUS - Instructions may require some work - Does not support Bluetooth so cannot be used with mobile devices or laptops - No mute button. You must turn the power off and on for privacy reasons. TIPS - Press and hold the power button to turn on/off - Double click the power button to switch channels. Be sure to set the other microphone to the same channel. For use with a karaoke machine, check that it has a 6.35mm audio jack. All in all, this is a great mic for DJs, presenters, and karaoke players. I've personally used it to teach a few photography classes, and the booming, deep sound it produces makes me sound a little more authoritative as a lecturer.
