They need to tell you what plastic they use

Yes, all plastic sold must be BPA and Phthalates free. I've read that polypropylene is currently the least toxic plastic and the least unsuitable for food contact. But these extra compartments make the dehydrator more useful and the device can also work well with these extra compartments.
