I bought this extender to get the same "just-one-cable" effect you get with an LG 4K Ultra Fine monitor used for a MacBook with my existing, not quite so chic monitor was made. I plugged Apple's USB-C Multiport Digital AV Adapter into the back of the monitor and hooked up power, HDMI and USB devices to it so everything was out of sight, then I run this extension out the side, so all I need to connect my 15 The 2017 MacBook Pro with TouchBar is an extension cable. Unexpected bonus: the cable matches my car's "space grey" color *perfectly*. However, like others, I had some difficulties with the cable at first. At first I found that it only supports power - couldn't get it to stream video through the plugged in adapter. But I eventually found out that for some reason the orientation (which side is up) of the cable connector matters, it seems too it doesn't matter which of my macbooks 4 us bc ports i connect the cable to. But now that the connector's seam is facing down and the cable is connected to the left port closest to the screen, it works perfectly and consistently every time.
