I don't think it's the same as hospital blankets. I should have considered other reviews that warned about this but thought it might be a different batch or something. But yeah, not super thin and stiff, and the edges are wrapped, not hemmed. Maybe it will soften with washing, but don't count on it, you can see through the fabric, the fabric is not dense. I've already used one so I can't return it. The colors are nice and bright and the 30 x 40 size is good for wrapping. So maybe good for summer diaper changing, but it's not the same.
