I have ordered several of these. They arrived in two days (USPS mail), packaging was fine for what they are. If you do this all the time, you probably won't need the rest of the information. The pin 1 side of the cable is clearly marked. My motherboard has 2 COM ports and COM1 is missing the pin in the top right corner. COM2 has a missing pin in the lower left corner. Since these cables have a 10-pin socket, they can be connected to the motherboard from either end, but only one of them is correct. One way to determine if the motherboard is missing pin 10 and pin 1 is on the opposite side. It may be marked DCD on the motherboard or described in the manual. The cable connects to the motherboard with a red stripe on pin 1. If you connect a wire with a red stripe to pin 10 (missing), it will not work. On my motherboard the wire on the left for COM1 is red and COM2 requires it with a red stripe on the right. Annoyingly, the manual shows COM2 incorrectly, so it's easy to make a mistake.
