Very durable and I'm not worried at all that my 8 year old son now has to take an iPad to school. BUT! When I tried to open it to insert it I was afraid for a moment that I would break it. See the instructions INSIDE the closed case for opening. Luckily I didn't damage the hull, but yes. Apparently you have to be telepathic or be able to read through the plastic (the instructions were on the back of the case, so not even visible through the front cover) to know how to open it properly.
