Secure fit is best in Accessories & Supplies

I use 12 gauge wires that are already tinned. Compression fittings made by others would require me to cut virgin wire in order for them to work. I have no doubt I could get a good fit with a 12 gauge compression fitting, but what if you use a smaller gauge? This leaves you in doubt about connecting to any size cable. You tighten them until the wires are secured. The first pictures show the connectors on the back that I wanted to use. While I was able to secure them by screwing the post to the wire, I didn't like the position of the wire afterwards. FOS power connectors were the real ticket here. Unfortunately I had to go back to the original connections as shown in photo 2. A compression fitting would allow me to remove the pin, but the wire would be a mess and I would have to re-cut the bare wire. On fig. 3 shows the wires after removing the FOS power connectors. Although it took some dexterity, I was able to re-insert them into the terminals as shown in Photo 2 without cutting the bare wire and I can easily reconnect the FOS power connectors if needed. While you may never need to remove the connectors, I will warn you. If you use thick wire, the only way to compress it is to attach the ferrule. If you feel resistance when threading the cap onto the handpiece, you may need to use a small file or rotary tool to bring the set screw closer to the outside diameter of the barrel itself. I groped for something in one of mine and found it impossible to remove. Photo 4 shows the results. You may wonder why go through all the difficulties? Just shorten the wire by cutting it. In this case, the wires are custom made and cut to length to fit a custom cabinet so we reuse them and save.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons

The best banana plug I've used so far.
