Yes it can be improved. Just got back from my first trip with it. Got the 21 inch size which is perfect for carry on. First, it has a classic canvas and leather look. It looks well made and will last for years. There are multiple storage spaces and pockets, and I've noticed some improvements here. While the nylon zips are large and have metal pulls, one of the external storage pockets is U-shaped and partially located under the canvas flap. I had some trouble getting the zippers to "go around the corners". smoothly even before you put anything in it. I can see zippers breaking at these stress points if you're not careful. The other thing, as mentioned, is the main storage compartment. "OK", that and all pockets are lined. The main pocket has dividers which I found useful. "Poor" as others have said, the opening is "straight" so you can't easily tuck folded shirts in. I resorted to the military method of twisting shirts and pants to tuck into the storage area. At least an L-shaped opening would certainly make it easier to insert clothes. As I only had jeans and casual shirts this wasn't a problem but if you have dress pants/shirts you will need to iron when you arrive at your destination. The bag has several carrying handles and a detachable shoulder strap. For the strap, a soft/leather/soft plastic shoulder strap can be used over the nylon strap to increase comfort and stability when worn on the shoulder. The bag also has padded shoulder straps so it can be carried/used as a backpack. They pack into a fairly large U-shaped bag; large enough to hold more items when not using the bag as a backpack. The outer part of this bag "curls up" and does not interfere when you use this bag as a backpack. Overall I am very happy with the looks and functionality as I could easily carry 4 days of clothing, toiletries and personal items in this bag including the CPap machine and attachments.
