Great, just please surge companies, please learn how to put circuit breakers in more logical places!

Now my HiFi system sounds like a $1 million system! Not really. sounds the same. But it seems to be a good price and has a good feature set. The form factor is quite unique, sort of a hybrid between an extension that can be placed behind devices and a "component" form that can be placed on a device shelf. It's larger than it looks, a typical AV component is about 1.5 inches wide or about 1U "thick" when placed horizontally. If you're looking for a component or rack surge protector rather than a regular power strip, this might be a good choice. You can't place another component on top of it due to its depth, but then again, you probably shouldn't anyway. The main switch is easy to use. Separate high-current filters are readily available for power amplifiers, for example, and are out of the question at this price level. One feature it doesn't have is a delay between the main switch and the controlled switches, which is handy, especially if you're using a high-current device in conjunction with other devices (i.e. the other a second or two later). An ergonomic issue: if you place it horizontally, with the connectors facing the back and the indicator lit from the front, the main power switch is just BEHIND the pulled-up power cord. Grab your finger. Also, the bulky power cord is closer to the front of the unit, rather than a more logical location on the back. Illogical and unergonomic placement of the power cord and switch is often a problem with surge protectors...in the wrong place. I usually think it's wiring and cost. But with this thing, the reasons are less clear. Was it actually harder to put the switch on the other side of the cable?

Pros
  • Prevents damage from power surges, surges, lightning strikes, etc.
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
