The bag offers so many possibilities apart from storing DVDs/CDs. I use a case to store my patterns, especially McCalls and Qwik Sew because their pattern sleeve is wider than Butterick and Simplicity. The downside is that you need to have a tag on the outside telling you what patterns are in the bag. Templates don't have spikes like DVDs, just the first and last template placed, each of which you can see an image of. I also used them to place rolls of drawing paper. I also used to keep rolls of stabilizers and small cotton swabs. I went crazy and put the remnants of the fabric on top, as well as the remnants of polyethylene. Handles allow you to carry items in and out of the sewing room. I could also store my 6x8 and 6x6 canvases in it. I can't speak for all brands of DVD drives, but they have given me so many storage options.
