I don't know who else listens to the radio like they used to, but there is a function. Along with a battery, lights, a solar charger (kinda useless?), a weather radio and a crank to turn it on. Overall, this is a reliable and useful tool for emergencies. We keep it in our backpacks just in case. how to twist and turn the crank and charge the battery. It's not very big, but it's what you need, and as long as you're alive and well you can generate electricity. The solar panel on it is very small and won't generate much power, but I suspect it can get enough power in an emergency to at least use the light. Even if you break the handle I suppose it's not a bad option. There is also a compartment for extra batteries. I don't know if the handle charges them though.
