Very soft material. Cuts from the food with a simple knife and fork will appear on it immediately. These cuts are unhygienic as they make cleaning difficult. I have a number of bowls that look exactly the same and are said to be made from the same material. but bowls don't get deep scratches from forks like these plates. They look less like wheat straw and more like a .25 to .50 cent plastic plate from the dollar store.
