Review on ALTRA Escalante 3 Men'S Road Running Shoe (AL0A7R6M) by Tim Crowder

Rigid front arch band - Be careful about fit

I've run in the Altra Escalante for years (9 orders on Ebay). I have loved the minimal sole, the wide toebox and the lightweight cloth mess upper.Since they have discontinued their 2.5 and Road Racer series, I bought the the Escalante 3. Same toebox, but there is a rigid mesh that is on the front arch that can't be loosened. I don't think my foot has a high arch, but it hits me just wrong and gives me pain with every step. Nothing I can do with lacing that will remove this tightness/pain. Even though I'm sized right - length and width, this shoe doesn't fit me.Why did Altra break a perfect shoe by discontinuing it and then designing out the very good things that were there before.

Pros
  • Take a look at the previous black Escalante and see how the new "black" is actually slate blue.
Cons
  • Same size I’ve worn in Escalante 2.5 but way smaller now. Like a full size smaller.
