Not as green as I would like but better than other options

This mattress was fine and had fewer flaws than my previous mattress which I returned. I'll admit there was a faint smell of band-aids, but I used an organic wool mattress pad (which I HIGHLY recommend) and the smell never got through to my daughter. I was also interested in the discrepancy between what was listed on the mattress and what was in the description on Amazon, so I emailed the manufacturer. Below is the response I received (less than 18 hours later): First of all, thank you for your purchase. Although rare, factory defects do occur. Let me express my regret that you are unhappy with your purchase. Many, many mothers have purchased this product and are very happy with it and we are disappointed that there are consumers who are unhappy. All foam mattresses are made of polyurethane foam. What makes this mattress more environmentally friendly than most is that the foam used to make this mattress replaces most of the petroleum-based oils used to make urethane foam with vegetable oils. Unfortunately, the California Bureau of Home Furnishings does not currently distinguish between the two types of foam, nor between organic and conventional materials. We would be breaking the law if we listed an unavailable component. The case is a more eco-friendly damask fabric case compared to the standard vinyl case. Parents also want their children's mattresses to be waterproof. Urethane is used to waterproof the damask on the mattress she bought. The mattress you bought has the waterproofing layer specially placed on the back of the cover so that the fabric is closest to the child. All mattresses covered with fabrics that claim to be waterproof have some form of waterproofing.
