The box seemed small so I was wondering if they sent the right size. But when I opened it up, all of the side pads were vacuum packed and spring loaded to the right size. There is a zipper around the base - you insert the pads from the bottom and close them. We were a little concerned reading reviews that mentioned a dog playing with a separate inner pad - our 10 month old pup chews things, carries things and grinds things. (The toy they turned on took about 30 minutes.) However, aside from trying to drag it across the floor when first assembling it, he wasn't worried at all. We have a medium sized 45lb English Springer (so far) and there is plenty of room for that. He obviously likes it, he stretched out on it and didn't realize that the pillow was hanging. It arrived a few days before the stated earliest delivery date.
