Review on πŸ’ͺ Misfit Ray - Carbon Black Fitness and Sleep Tracker with Stylish Leather Band by Black Croom

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A discreet, no-frills tracker with a few basic PROs!

I bought this to replace my Jawbone UP2. I liked the Jawbone UP app: the UI was clean but detailed, the "coach" feature was a bit cheesy but still motivating, and it did everything I needed. The band itself was cute and didn't look like a tracker. When the rubber band broke for the third time in 2 years I looked for another tracker that didn't look so obvious. Misfit Ray adjusts all parameters. . I'm used to not having a display and I don't need a heart rate monitor for my lifestyle. I needed a basic sleep and fitness tracker and I don't mind using an app to get the data. The tracker's "rose gold" (looks like copper) metal suited my aesthetic well, and the fact that I could change the strap was a key selling point. I replaced the silicone sport strap with an 8mm leather strap and I love it. The fact that I don't have to charge it at all is great. I would rather change the batteries every 6 months than charge the bracelet once a week. Also, this way I don't have to worry about the battery not holding a charge. I've been using Misfit Ray for about a month now and while it seems accurate for the most part, it's not as stable as Jawbone. UP2. I prefer the UP app over the Misfit app even though they are similar, especially for sleep tracking. The UP app was much easier to see when I was awake (with orange spikes over the sleep graph for waking stages), while the Misfit app shows them as "very light purple" as opposed to light purple and medium purple for light and deep sleep respectively .all in one line. While the app display isn't the end of the world and I'm sure I'll get used to it, the sleep tracking does seem to skip a few times when I wake up at night. The step count seems mostly consistent with other trackers I've used, although in my brief experience it doesn't track anything other than walking/running. What I like most about the tracker is that even though it doesn't have a screen, it notifies me when I get messages on my phone: incoming calls, text messages, and other app notifications buzz on my wrist. Since my phone is off most of the time at work, this is a great way to make sure I don't miss a message. It also has an inactivity buzzer that's impossible to ignore (unlike UP2's gentle reminder). Likewise, the morning alarm wakes me up by buzzing until I'm actually concentrating on tapping the bracelet to turn it off, so I haven't slept yet. through like I used to do with UP2! The downside is that you can only set one alarm; It would be nice to see a programmable alarm that could be set by day and/or have multiple daily alarms. I had some trouble syncing Ray with the Link app, which allows me to use the "triple tap" feature on the wristband to control other apps on my phone, like camera shutter or music. It's still very difficult, but I'll keep trying. Overall I am happy with the Misfit Ray and would buy it again.
