The material is very soft, like fur. The ceiling is quite thin and you can feel the heating wires, but that's not a big deal. It is ideal for sitting comfortably on the couch with your pet. Haven't washed it yet but I think it will hold up well. If not, I'll send an update. Update: This is basically a nice warm but DISPOSABLE electric blanket. I had it less than a year and it just stopped working. I used and washed it in a light winter (December-March). I went to get it from storage and the lights just flicker and it doesn't get hot. I tried different forks, plugs and pulls. That's a waste of money. Buyer Warning.
