We don't smoke in the house but my husband has a very bad habit of leaving things where he last used them. In such a case, we had several windproof ashtrays that we used outside. I have repeatedly asked him not to leave them on the back table as they are metal and the table is uncovered; he wasn't listening, of course. The ashtrays were rusty and soiled the table. I threw them away which made him unhappy as he no longer had an outdoor ashtray. I found this one and since the price was reasonable and it's made out of resin I thought it would be perfect. It has a lid that covers the top and because it's not metal he can leave it on my desk in the rain for as long as he wants and I don't have to worry about it rusting and staining. Now when I get my new table it will look brand new! I'll probably order a second one at some point so he can have one in the front and one in the back, but for now he needs to put this one where it belongs. At least I know he won't ruin anything if he leaves it where he last used it and it gets wet.
