Review on πŸŒ€ Fanaway Evo2 Retractable Ceiling Fan with Remote, 48 Inch, Oil Rubbed Bronze with Dark Koa Blades - 4 Lighting Options by Nathan Kalivas

Clever way to hide a ceiling fan

This fan is a great option when a ceiling fan can be handy but isn't used regularly. Let's start with the fan: the blades retract and hide over the light fixture when the fan is off, and extend by centrifugal force when the fan is activated. The vanes are mechanically linked to provide balanced vane opening/retraction. Runs quietly with no noticeable hum and very little wind noise from the blades. If the fan had any downsides, it's that the design doesn't allow for the fan to be reversible. While the fan moves quite a bit of air, it doesn't seem to move as much as a similarly sized fixed blade design. Installation was no more difficult than other brands of fans. The remote receiver was a bit awkward as it was hidden between the control box and the bracket. This is an area for potential design improvements. This fan is a little harder to lift into place since the fan blades and control mechanism are already installed. The operation with the wireless remote control works perfectly. The receiver remembers the last settings. So if the fan/light was on before the wall switch was turned off, it will continue with the same settings when the wall switch is turned back on. The only downside is that with such a power supply, the light comes on again with a delay of almost two seconds. Since I don't plan on using the fan with the light off, I decided to bypass the wireless remote and connect the light directly to the incoming hot wire (don't forget to cover the unused wire from the receiver output). With this arrangement, the light is controlled solely by the wall switch and the light turns back on almost instantly. Additional Note: If your installation has the appropriate wall controls (light switch and fan motor control), this unit can be installed without using the wireless remote control. The general build quality seems good, although I was a bit disappointed that the light diffuser was plastic. It may be the best in the long run as it is less prone to breakage. They sent me the wrong color scheme (Fanaway error, not Revain) but I only found out after installing it (it was ordered by someone else). The "alternative" color option works with decor, but I'm not sure I really like clear plastic blades as they seem to give off a "cheap" color compared to a pigmented paint. If you have a place where an occasional fan might be convenient, such as a For example, if you have a kitchen or gym but don't want the sight of an unused ceiling fan hanging over the room, this is a great solution.
