These battery powered lights are good because we don't have outlets on the street in our apartment. They have a timer and turn on automatically as soon as the button is pressed for the first time. For example, if you want them to turn on at 5pm, just press them at 5am and they will stay on for 6 hours, turning on at 5pm every day. It's so convenient that I fear the batteries will burn out too quickly. Battery life wise, I left them on for a full 6 hours every day for about a week and a half, and then the batteries died. It's not the most practical option, but since it's our only option, it works. We love them and I might buy a few more for our hikes.
