Review on KidKraft Wooden Storage Childrens Furniture Furniture by Edgar Gomez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I bought this table a year ago.

This table was a Christmas present in 2010. Almost a year has passed and this table is in pretty good condition. However, I am currently looking for a new one. I'll start with the positive things first. Pros: - Durable. My son was just 3 years old when we gave him this table and he has really experienced this table for himself ever since. Toys rattled on it, crayons and pens left their mark, and I can't tell you how many times the table and chairs were dragged around the house by my aspiring little interior decorator. My husband and I even sat in chairs with him at times and were surprised at how well they held us, given our weight compared to his. I liked the idea of colorful trash cans underneath. Initially, only red and blue baskets were sent to us. BORING! When I read the description it said this table comes with a red, blue, yellow and green basket so I was a bit disappointed. I called Kidkraft (a bit anal I know) and asked how I could get the green/yellow basket mailed. Additional containers were sent to me free of charge. With all the little toys he had around the house, I thought this would be a great way to clean up. - Size / design. This table is ideal for children aged 2 to 5 years. The backs of the chairs are high enough to comfortably support small children and the overall design of this set is just adorable. The reason I'm looking for a new table and chair set at the moment is all this assembly wrench. This is best explained by disadvantages. Disadvantages: - assembly! This table has been going for ages. We ran into problems when we realized that not all of the pre-punched holes lined up properly. Some of these were 2-3 millimeters too big, which doesn't sound like much, but it was a pain getting the damn screws in the holes! Be willing to argue with your spouse (if he/she helps) for no other reason than frustration. - Constantly having to tighten loose bolts with an Allen key that no one can find! - There are 4 strange looking screws? running under the table to screw it to the legs. No matter how many times we tighten it, they fall out forever. So much so that my husband instead had to add two L-shaped brackets at the bottom to keep the table from detaching from his legs when resting on one end of the table. - The baskets that came with this table broke after a few months. Despite being cheap, I expected them to last a little longer than they did. My kid also misbehaves with toys so it was probably his fault and not the quality of the Kidkraft. While this table is beautiful to look at, I just got tired of tightening the screws. I don't have to worry about my child's safety, but right now I'm concerned. I went into his room many times and found him playing with loose propellers that had come loose from his chair. I'm surprised he hasn't fainted while sitting in one of them. Personally I would not recommend this table and am hoping my new search will result in a table that does not use hex keys as I have yet to find a piece of furniture that shows any degree of durability when using a hex key assembly.
