For those who wrote that it's small for a towel - YES it's too small for a towel. Considering it's a fingertip towel rail, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Handkerchiefs are larger than a washcloth but smaller than a hand towel. This shelf is the perfect size for a towel at your fingertips. ;-)>> Yes, the stand is plastic, but the one I received is NOT transparent like the others. I put deco stones as a base, they hide plastic well and that's not a problem for me. I tried knocking it over before putting rocks in it and it seemed pretty stable even without rocks.>> As for the stand, it's a pale gray powder-coated metal that looks like enamel. I was hoping it would be more stainless steel or brushed nickel, but it's a very pale gray. Not quite white, but when I first saw it I thought it was white. Once the towels are on, they hide most of the hanger over the base. >> All in all, this will serve my purpose. He goes where I need it and does what I need. :))
