Review on Fujifilm Finepix Digital Wide Angle Optical by Stephanie Brown

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great camera in photo & photo

This camera and lens combo is 98% what I wanted and needed. I like the 28-300mm zoom (35mm equivalent), although 500-600mm would be better in some cases. However, I don't want to lug around equivalent DSLR lenses. I want to get rid of the weight and complexity. Images are crisp, true to color and bright. I found that previous commenters had given me an important part of using the camera: read the manual and experiment with different combinations of settings. I think I love auto bracketing the most. I put it 2/3 stops up and down and it takes 3 shots in quick succession: a 'correct' one, a 2/3 overexposed, 2/3 underexposed. So I get a perfect one from the set. It doesn't work in raw mode. I loved the RAW mode at ISO 100, but I think most of the time I'll be happy with the JPG auto bracketing. Olympus and Fuji have a reputation for coming closest to true color and I wanted that despite some Canon cameras being heavily advertised. I made the decision after several Canon IS5 reviews were published and I had the opportunity to see Canon for myself. I personally prefer the manual zoom of the Fuji S9100. I immediately put a 58 mm filter on it. Glad I did, I had some sort of liquid droplet on the lens (the filter) for the first week. I haven't been happier with a purchase (a gift of my choice) in decades, hence 5 stars. Ordering from Revain and delivery to 17th Street Photo was quick and reliable.
