It should be new. The item came second hand. I tried anyway. Doesn't really work as my mouse is too big. I added some lined paper so the optical eye could see the movement (the solid background on this thing is a design flaw), pinned the cable and pinched it diagonally. Seems to do the job. The cursor moved to the right and then down. I don't see it anymore, but my computer hasn't hibernated yet and had to hibernate 15 minutes ago for it to work. turn it off every time. It would have been 5 stars with an on/off switch, a larger stand and a loose background. (Even if the item is newly arrived.)
