I wanted to make a palm rest for my laptop out of glove leather. I don't have much experience with this, but I've been advised to use either a teflon foot or a caster foot for this. This set contains both at a rather modest price. Both work well with my Brother low shank sewing machine. I've tried both on a few pieces of soft glove leather and both worked equally well. I ended up using a teflon foot and was able to complete my project without breaking the needle. I can't comment on how they work with thicker leather (like saddle leather) as I haven't used it for that. Look at the picture - the purple leather thing is the wrist rest I made. It's not perfect, but that's due to my inexperience, not my legs.
