We have just got a new kitten and we use this mat alongside the tray and food tray. I don't think she got it. had just come out, but she clung to him several times. I think it will get better with time. Thing is, when they claw it lifts the mat, so if you have it under something it can fly. I think if your cat likes to scratch and claw it, you can screw it into the ground or any hard surface. or even wrap it around a pipe as a scratching post. I think it's ok for kittens, but cats might pull on it too hard. Overall I like it and so does the kitten. We spilled some food on it and it was easy to clean with a hose.
