I love that it was a deep plate and in a metal container. The lid fits well and doesn't seal at all. Actually, I would like it to be airtight, but it's not. Therefore, you must be careful to lift the container by the metal and not the lid, otherwise it will fall off, just like the knife. It fits perfectly into my interior. (I have a metal bowl in the same style). I had no problem splitting the wood, I would just sand it down if it was. I wanted one in ceramic but also one in turquoise so I had to make a choice and I'm glad I went for the metal one.
