Review on ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Efficient Dorman 604-307 Air Door Actuator: Optimize Climate Control with Precision by Keith Barra

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fits great on my 2008 Kia Sedona LX

The product I received was exactly as described by reviewer Andrew. This is model number AA1G5100 but it worked great to replace the original model numbered one. AB1C6100. The one I replaced was the top one, which controls which vents air goes to. It has a large white plastic cam that interacts with 3 damper pins. For those who like more technical details: my original jammed. While trying to fix it I disassembled the block and thought to find a cracked plastic spur gear. nope The reason for the failure was a small 12-volt motor. It spins well in one direction, but if you spin it the other way it just stays put. So for those who like soldering and repairing, you can easily replace the motor on one of these devices. I wanted to do this until I found the whole block here at Revain for a very reasonable price. I didn't want to spend more time looking for a replacement motor, but if anyone wants one you can probably find one for around $10. Tip: You can test the drive motor outside of the car by simply connecting two 9V batteries in series and connecting them to the two rightmost pins (with the white plastic cam facing up). It should rotate smoothly. Swap the wires to test the opposite direction. Also, to properly remove the cam from the shaft: there is a very small hole in the cam that allows you to insert a very small flat bladed screwdriver and unclip the lock from the counter gear. . It's like having to press the latch on a wire harness before you can pull it off, only it's harder to get to and requires a very small tool (a screwdriver worked for me). You might be able to just remove the camera without having to, but they put the shutter there for a reason. It is not intended to be easily removed without first opening the clasp. I first tried reinstalling the camera following reviewer Andrew's suggestion (which might be easier for some people), but I found it easier to just install the entire device with the camera attached. . I wanted to ENSURE that the cam was fully engaged (with a click) into the gear socket of the device and I wasn't sure I could turn it upside down with a hand held by the tool. and twisted the other hand in a way I didn't know my hands were capable of. Of course it was crowded, but not that bad. It took a few times just to align the damper pins like that, but it worked well. One thing that helped was running the engine until the cam was halfway in before attempting to install it. Thus, it is clearer to see which channel each of the 3 contacts belongs to.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Easy to repair
