I used this to repair my 2007 FJ Cruiser which was losing mid, then mid and finally low fan speed over time. Many articles warn that if your fan motor draws too many amps they can burn out, but due to my gradual speed loss over 1-2 years I took a chance and just bought this fan speed relay. I would suggest removing the old fan speed relay first - as this clearly showed my problem was due to the various speed terminals being completely rusted and corroded to the point of open circuiting (which confirmed to me that this was the cause of my problems and not a defective fan motor). In addition, the overprotection element was in good condition. It took some WD-40 and some wiggling to loosen the connector as rust had spread to one of the terminals in the connector. Engine off, medium to high speed (rusted connector in terminal) didn't work at first, but anything over WD40 + full voltage with engine on, and all 4 fan speeds worked fine. One month after installation, the fan relay continues to function normally and as expected.
