Review on ๐Ÿ’™ Improved CMS50NA Pulse Oximeter: High-Performance Blood Oxygen Saturation Monitor (Navy Blue) by Cristina Villanueva

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Once you fix the battery compartment, everything works fine.

This review relates to the pulse oximeter CONTEC MED CMS50NA. This is a blood oxygen saturation meter. It comes with no extras, just the device itself. You have to get the batteries for it yourself and they need 2 x AAA. When you turn it on and stick your finger in, it lasts 5 to 10 seconds and then displays your O2 and BPM readings. For me every time it reads it shows 97 and from there it moves up or down. So give it some time to work as initially it defaults to 97. I noticed that the photos in the list also show 97 for each of them. I notice that when I hold my breath, my oxygen levels decrease and when I start breathing again, it rises, so that's a good sign that it's working properly. The screen changes orientation depending on how you hold the device. It always tries to make sure you can view the stats correctly. It works pretty well and overall I think it guesses correctly. This thing gave me nothing but battery issues from the start. I tried using several sets in it but none of them worked. I found that pushing a battery to the side helped improve contact and the device would turn on when held that way. Not something I want to do all the time, so I investigated further and found an issue with the battery contacts. It uses the wrong contacts for the battery compartment. It has a spring for positive and negative which is wrong and causes it not to work with many battery types. The spring cannot make good contact with the positive end. I fixed it myself by taking a pair of pliers and bending the spring inwards at the tip. This gave it enough space to make contact and now it works every time with no problems. It generally works if you apply the above fix, but I'm not sure. It seems like a good tool to at least keep an eye on and I hope it lasts. I took it apart to figure out the battery issue above and it seems to put together well.
