U.S. Electrical issue? Let's you plug it in wrong? Trips breaker

I really wanted this to work but I never got a chance to actually see it work due to electrical issues. To start, the first thing in the instructions is explaining how the plug is polarized and how you risk electric shock if you attempt to insert it the wrong way and that it won't allow you to insert it the wrong way because the plug is made to fit only one way. However, I'm looking at the plug and it is clearly NOT polarized. So does this mean that I have a 50/50 chance of inserting it the wrong way? Because clearly, it will physically fit either way into the socket and it is not a grounded plug. This part is terrifying. Additionally, the cord is odd in that the plug end is an attachment that screws on to the actual cord. I did attempt to plug this in to a GFCI outlet and it tripped my outlet. At that point, I felt that I would be an idiot to attempt to go any further. I'm not an electrician and I shouldn't have to be to use a snowflake projector. Aside from the electrical woes, it was difficult to figure out how to put it together. It says to remove the screw from the stake but yet, you actually need the screw in the stake and the screw seems permanently affixed. The words in the instructions were not helpful and only one picture was useful. The others just didn't look at all like what came in the box. Some sentences just seemed like gibberish to me. Lots of fancy words that were put together by a baby? I don't know what it was trying to say but I'm sure it was important for my health and safety. I think they need to actually put a polarized plug on this and provide an integrated power cord that is not pieced together. This is supposed to be used outside but with the cord like it is (even if properly polarized), it does not seem waterproof. You can unscrew the cord part from the end with the plug on it.
