I have a small dog weighing 9 pounds. And the reason I wanted this step is because it's wide and the steps are wide in both directions, both in length and width. Currently . She was always suspicious of footsteps and I tried to get her used to footsteps. If the step is narrow in depth, it will be a challenge for them. But with this FOAM LADDER, the width and length make it easy for her. She was even SAD on the STEP, which she couldn't on other steps. She is tiny, so she can easily climb stairs. She steps down easily. NOW she can tip the tip a bit with her light weight but I can find a way to increase that. But I lean it against the edge of the couch and it stays in place no matter how fast she jumps. . She doesn't hesitate to climb these stairs because the first step is low and wide and she feels safe. She never "asks" me to help her up the stairs. She climbs very confidently and without help all the time.
