Review on NIKE Academy Team Backpack Midnight by Craig Galante

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Is that a football bag?!?

I expected the quality and feel of this bag to be better when it comes to a Nike signature bag. The materials for the $40 pack were lighter, so this bag may not hold up for its intended use. In terms of features and capabilities the biggest issue is that it is a small backpack when actually used for football. The ball compartment barely fits a size 5 ball and takes up nearly half the volume of the bag before anything else goes in. It may be ok if you only use it for recreational purposes where your child will have less gear to carry around. It just doesn't have enough room for a ball, boots, shin pads, a water bottle and a full set of uniforms (2 uniform colors, warm-up set, extra socks, etc.). It would be difficult to use this for an out of town tournament or on a weekend and keep all your essentials in one bag. For reference, the Adidas Stadium II Football Pack does everything relatively well. The size is 40-50% larger and the compartments are thoughtfully arranged. The ball compartment is a large mesh pocket that can either be fully zipped into the pocket or "hung" on the back when the interior is full, giving you more usable interior space. The mobile phone pocket is lined and there is another mesh pocket with a zip at the top of the main inner compartment. In addition, the padding and materials on the shoulder straps are of significantly higher quality and more constructive than on the Adidas backpack. The Nike backpack just feels cheap and basic in comparison.
