Review on 3M Monitor Holding Monitors MA140MB by Herb Guevara

Revainrating 1 out of 5

VERY disappointed, can't hold 24lbs, would return if I could.

I have a couple of similar Apple displays - a Thunderbolt display and a 27 inch LED cinema display. They share the same general characteristics. 27 inches, 24 pounds. They are VERY hard to find swivel mounts. I get it. When I found this one that could not only hold MORE than its weight, but also larger monitors than that, I was ecstatic. I waited weeks to buy it because $80 is EXPENSIVE for a monitor stand. Even for a $1,000 monitor. I received it over a month ago and finally found the time and patience to disassemble and reassemble my Thunderbolt display stand. First, the assembly is primarily made of plastic. That's unfortunate. The tensioners are better than most I've seen as they use a secondary layer of plastic to shift the pressure - which is great. But the VESA mount can't hold the monitor. It cannot be tightened enough to hold the monitor upright at a 90º angle to me. It sags down at a 15º angle and sags. at eye level on a table it is useless. The clamp is spaced 2 inches apart. My table has a 1x4 top and a 2x2 box frame. It barely makes it, but can't get the clip in where it can be safely mounted, so I'm worried about where it is just to make it *perhaps remotely, potentially* useful Monitor requires a wrench to tighten as this part is not placed in a molded bracket. Wrench is not included. Nor is it marked in the instructions. By the way, it is 7 mm. You can use a 9/32 Allen, but I don't recommend that - too much power (9/32 = 0.71mm). It comes with M3.5 screws, which aren't the types of screws in a monitor that you would expect for most of what this mount supports. And now I'm past the return deadline for the mount, so I'll stick with it. Maybe I should just take it to 3M World HQ as they are only 13 miles from me on Interstate 94. I have never been so disappointed with a 3M product. They saved my life (surgical tools), they lie under my kitty litter (Nomad® mats), they have been a part of my life for four decades. but it's a giant pile of steaming poop.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and chunky
