Review on MSI Summit B14 Professional Laptop by Peter Alradwan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent system combination with bright screen. Full of viruses. Very weak speakers.

Coming from a desktop PC, I had moderate expectations for a laptop in this price range. My first impression was how great the Iris Xe is with its integrated graphics. You get decent playability in older games like Borderlands 2, GTA V, etc. if you're willing to compromise at lower rendering resolutions. The i5 version is also very competent. I think that in 2021 this laptop will suffice for anything you might need without expecting too much from the gaming side. Virus from how incredibly difficult it is to completely remove it from your system. The speakers were incredibly quiet on some things, especially Netflix. Some YouTube videos were mysteriously loud, but generally just incredibly quiet, as if the higher the resolution of the video, the quieter it got. I tried different audio drivers and such and nothing fixed it. Eventually I wanted more and at this price point there are cheaper or similarly priced laptops that are simply more powerful. When I got it I liked the build quality and all, but I couldn't shake the feeling that for the same amount of money I didn't have to deal with mediocre frame rates in games like GTA V and Rocket League. PS The metallic finish makes it an absolute magnet for finger smudges. After a few hours of use, it will inevitably be stained. TLDR: If you're just interested in school/work use with light gaming here and there, I think this is a great laptop. If you're not that tech savvy and don't mind the preinstalled software and the headache of removing it, this might be for you. It's mind-blowing that the laptop can run AAA games (with mediocre performance mind you, but it still works). In case you're wondering what I picked, I went with the MSI Prestige 14, which currently costs $200. here on Revain for a total of $999. Despite being $200 more expensive than the Summit B14, it has twice the RAM and an equally powerful i5, but more importantly, a dedicated GTX 1650.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
