This is a very good product if you follow the instructions. It's not cheap, but if you want to make sure the smell of ammonia doesn't permeate your carpet, it's fantastic. I ended up using it on both the old urine stain and the new one. I got new ones right away but they still left a stain on the carpet. But the smell was completely gone. As soon as you pour it on the carpet, the smell starts to improve. It helps a lot if you "inject" it into the carpet to get under the surface. I didn't buy a carpet sprayer there, just used a needleless sprayer I had lying around. It might not have been as effective as this company's carpet gun, but it got the job done. After seeing myself apply this product (according to directions) to a fresh stain (yellowing has not yet occurred) I thought it would help prevent staining but it didn't so I have 1 for that star deducted. I had to apply to the old stain a couple of times but in the end the smell got better. There wasn't a stain. I didn't expect this product to remove old stains so it's ok. This has probably been a favorite spot for one of my cats to urinate for a few years now. It's only recently that she stopped going there. Since she finally stopped going there I decided to do my best to get ALL the smell out and this thing worked great. When the house was warmer the smell got the better of us and now we don't even notice it. I still have some work to do on it as you can still smell it a bit if you put your nose close to the carpet, but it's greatly improved. I think I just have to apply the product to the pad under the carpet and everything will be fine. Overall I highly recommend this product. It works with both old and new scents and does a great job with it. It works way better than anything I've ever tried against old urine odors. Just don't expect any stain removal/prevention properties from it. I'll probably end up trying their particular stain removal product given how happy I am with it in terms of odor removal.
