In the last three years, I have known seven people who have fallen victim to a growing epidemic of electronic pickpocketing. Five of them survived this accident while traveling in Europe. Returning home from either a business trip or a family vacation, they found in the months that followed that their credit cards had been used for fraudulent purchases. According to American Express, MasterCard and Visa, all illegal transactions were made by swiping their credit cards even after returning home from Europe, and the real cards were not physically stolen. Her student ID information was stolen and her account was completely wiped. She didn't realize it until she paid for dinner at one of the restaurants on campus, only to find her account was empty. Ironically, she carries her credit cards in her backpack all the time. Wherever she goes, her backpack is always with her. Although their cards weren't stolen, someone with an RFID reader must have stolen the information from the cards while they were walking around campus. Since I like to carry various credit cards and driver's licenses with easily scannable RFID chips with me, I decided on this wallet and tested it. A friend of mine who works for a security company has both high and low frequency RFID readers at his workplace. We checked all the memory slots in this wallet and they could not read them when the wallet is open or closed. SUCCESS! However, in the old wallet I had, the above cards could easily be read by either scanner from 2-3 feet away. The quality of this purse is excellent. In addition, the seams are well finished and look very strong. Although it's a lot stiffer than my old one, I'm sure it will feel a lot better after a few months of use. Just last week, my cousin almost fell over when she received an $8,235 bill from Visa. Here again the same picture; she carries her Visa card in her large, bulky purse at all times. She didn't lose her credit card, but she did make a number of purchases and picked up a fake copy at stores in nearby cities and in Atlanta, Georgia. The case was referred to the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office for investigation. I have recommended this company to her and all my friends so that they can protect themselves from electronic pickpocketing in the future.
